DYSTOPIAN ROMANCE—Fluctuating climate, space exploration, and an unpredictable future has led many to question what the world will look like in the coming years. New sequels like Mad Max’s Furiosa, Avatar 3, and Dune Part II will only serve to drive this sense of escapism and stimulate the imagination.  A new aesthetic begins to emerge combining the daunting exploration of the unknown with a sense of brutal romanticism. In the wellness space, darkness retreats gain traction with participants submerged in complete darkness for the entirety of the experience—the end goal: to find their inner light. In fashion, luxury will evolve into darker, moodier iterations that blend metallic shades of the galaxy with the sterile grays of outer space. Nike’s newest collaboration with Jacquemus delivers an ultra modern twist on activewear basics:  intentionally draped fabrication creating Avant-garde cutouts and silhouettes.  Fall 2025 will see washed knits, waxed finishes, and daring designs that point to a world beyond our own, new universes with boundless potential.

FEMININITY REDEFINED— 2025 will introduce a new realm of femininity, elevating women’s silhouettes and implementing technology in female-focused products.  According to Lululemon’s new campaign, Further, a recent audit of science and sports medicine journals found that only 4%-13% of published studies were female-only.  Further spotlights this discrepancy between men and women with an all-female running challenge featuring products that have undergone extensive research to shape, support, and adjust to a women’s body.  On the runway, Saint Laurent pivoted from the crisp cottons of past seasons to luxe sheers exuding sensual femininity.  At Stella McCartney, models were sent down the runways topless but for oversized blazers, a mirrored image of Miu Miu’s previous ‘no pants look’.  Crafted designs, elevated fabrications, and a developing awareness for the female athlete will continue to grow, empowering women for whatever the future might hold.
